tompeters! management consulting leadership training development project management

I found the above link at Tom Peter's website. It is a 3 minute video where he talks about the role of leadership as empowering others to "unleash their dreams." I have been looking for a succinct way to express what I have been feeling, thinking, and attempting to do over the past 7 months at Andover. Help people live into their God given, inspired and equipped dreams of ministry. It is not about the professional clergy having the total vision. It is about a joint and shared vision between clergy and lay that empowers the church. My personal dream is that the entirety of ministry be "owned" by laypersons in such a way as we all grow closer to Christ through seasons of being equipped and serving.

The best case yet for helping Pastor's stick to proclaiming Jesus and not trying to influence elections. Should we be involved personally? Yes. Is the pulpit the place to be expressing our opinions on candidates? I don't believe it so. Is the pulpit the place to express our opinions on issues? Depends...I will let you decide that one.

It hit me

5 minutes before the service yesterday morning I came across a sight that really brought some things home to me. There was a group of young people (ie. under the age of 12) making their way through the halls excitedly getting ready to acolyte in the service. Well, one was the acolyte, the other five were "helping"! And it just hit me that this is what Sunday mornings are all about. A safe place for kids to come and participate. A growing place for families to make it through life. And a place of community for all people regardless of their season in life. Those things are happening at Andover and it is only by the grace of God at work. Humbling really for me personally.
